Home of Blessings
Irregularity in school attendance and drop-outs are common occurrence in Bangladesh, especially in rural areas. Extreme poverty, migration and lack of proper parenthood are the main barriers to integrate poor children with mainstream education. The scenario is even worse for girls compared to boys because girls are often perceived as burden of the family. As a consequence, many girls are being married off at a young age, hence deprived of education which is their basic right.
One of the main purposes of CSS’ existence is to integrate the vulnerable children from hard to reach areas into the education program and help them develop to their full potential. With a view to achieving this goal, Rev. Paul Munshi, the Founder Chairman of CSS, established Home of Blessings (HoB) in 1981. It is primarily an orphanage care program for the girls from disadvantaged communities around Bangladesh. Currently CSS operates two Home of Blessings (one at Gallamari, Khulna and the other one at Gazipur, Dhaka), where a total of 763 girls are being accommodated and brought up with parental love and care. Besides a secured place to live, they are also provided with nutritious meals, clothing, education and health care. Celebrating day observance on special days, cultural events, camps and study tours are regularly organized to nurture and help blossom the creative minds of the teenagers. The local guardians or parents are continually educated and sensitized about their roles in children welfare and kept in touch with the girl’s progressive development stages.
