Health Sector

Every nation should invest resources in the health of its citizens as the health index of any nation is closely linked with her economic and social growth. Studies have shown that the growing problems associated with diseases and epidemics are inversely related to economic growth especially in developing countries. In other words, a nation with healthy citizens is more likely to advance in terms of economic progression and its sustainability, increased productivity and the overall wellbeing of future generations.

The health system of Bangladesh relies heavily on the government or the public sector for financing and setting overall policies and service delivery mechanisms. Although the health system is confronted with many obstacles, it seems to receive less priority in terms of national resource allocation. However, Bangladesh has achieved remarkable progress in the health sector, particularly in reducing maternal and infant/child mortality rates significantly. Life expectancy at birth increased significantly since its independence in 1971. Interestingly, Bangladesh has made much improvement in the health sector with relatively low level of health expenditure.

With an aim to create access to affordable healthcare and to improve the overall health status of the people of south-western part of Bangladesh, CSS has been providing primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare in the hard to reach areas. Preventive health measures are also in the agenda of CSS’ health sector as community outreach programs such as camps, awareness-raising, and advocacy programs are being carried out. The current projects of health sector are; Rev. Abdul Wadud Memorial Hospital, Nursing Institute, Accelerating Sustainable WASH Services, Advocacy on Safe Motherhood, HIV/AIDS Prevention Program, and Mother’s and Assuring Nutrition for Children through Application of Learning (Ma’r ANChAL).
